Cross Beam Fruit Press 20 litre
Ref: DP139
This heavy duty Steel Framed press for larger yields of fruit for the serious amateur or semi-professional juice maker. Supplied with a stainless steel juice collection tray.
The top cross beam can be removed to take our Manual Crusher (available separately) which can be mounted over the body of the press to crush fruit directly into the press, makes the whole thing easy. Liner bags available separately.
Before use the press should be washed with warm soapy water. Raise the pressure disc by turning the top lever rod anti-clockwise; slacken the wing nut on one end of the cross beam and swing the beam and disc to one side. The cylindrical cage can then be lifted off the base plate. After washing, rinse with fresh water, dry the spindle thread and lubricate it with petroleum jelly or vegetable oil. Dip a little vegetable oil into the join between the screw spindle press and the bracket on the wooden disc. The press is now ready for use.
Fruit preparation
It is essential that fruit is prepared before pressing. Apples must be reduced to a pulp, either by pounding with a large piece of clean wood or by using Ascott fruit crushers. Thorough crushing will give a good juice yield from the press. Slicing the fruit is not sufficient. Food processors are not really suitable, as they tend to chop the fruit too finely. Grapes and other soft fruits must also be gently crushed to break their skins before pressing.
Pressing
The pressing can be secured to a bench or board to give; there are holes in the feet for this purpose. Position the press so that there is room under the outlet lip for a bucket to collect the juice. Place a suitable clean receptacle under the outlet lip.
Fill the cage with crushed fruit, using your fist to press it down firmly. Fill to within about half an inch of the rim.
Continue pressing until the flow of juices slows. Raise the pressure disc, swing it away from the cage and lift the cage off the base - the compressed cake of fruit can then be punched out. If you are short of fruit it may be worth putting this pressed material to one side and combining it with the next batch of pressed fruit in a second pressing.
Cleaning
After use clean the press with water, using a scrubbing brush to remove fruit from between the wooden slats.
Dry and lubricate the screw thread and store in a dry place.
Our 20 litre Cross Beam Fruit press will give years of service, at a great price.
